Description

These Homemade Peppermint Patties are a festive and delicious holiday treat made with just five simple ingredients. Creamy peppermint-flavored centers are coated in rich semi-sweet chocolate and topped with colorful Christmas sprinkles, perfect for gifting or sharing at holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Coating

  • 3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil or shortening
  • Christmas sprinkles (green, red, and white, any shape)

Instructions

  1. Make the Peppermint Dough: In the bowl of a stand mixer or a large bowl with an electric hand mixer, combine the sweetened condensed milk and peppermint extract. Slowly add the powdered sugar one cup at a time, beating until a stiff dough forms that can hold its shape.
  2. Shape the Patties: Using a cookie scoop, form 1-inch balls (about ping pong ball size) and place them on a baking sheet lined with a non-stick mat or parchment paper. Gently press each ball down to flatten into patties.
  3. Dry the Patties: Allow the patties to dry for 2 hours at room temperature. Flip them once halfway through drying to ensure even drying on both sides.
  4. Melt the Chocolate: When the drying time is nearly complete, place the chocolate chips and coconut oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously as the chocolate melts, then remove from heat once smooth.
  5. Coat the Patties: Dip each dried peppermint patty into the melted chocolate, fully coating it. Place the coated patties back onto the lined baking sheet.
  6. Add Sprinkles and Set: While the chocolate coating is still wet, gently press Christmas sprinkles onto the top of each patty. Allow the chocolate to set at room temperature or in a cool spot until firm before serving.

Notes

  • If you prefer a stronger peppermint flavor, increase peppermint extract to 1 1/2 teaspoons.
  • Coconut oil helps the chocolate coating become smooth and shiny, but shortening can be used as a substitute.
  • Sprinkles add a festive touch but can be omitted or replaced with crushed candy canes for extra crunch.
  • Store peppermint patties in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
  • Using a non-stick mat or parchment paper prevents sticking and makes cleanup easier.
