Description

A delicious honey mustard maple glazed ham featuring a sweet and tangy glaze made from honey, pure maple syrup, Dijon mustard, and brown sugar. This spiral-cut, bone-in ham is slowly baked and then broiled for a caramelized finish, perfect for festive dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale

Ham

  • 8 pound bone-in spiral-cut half ham smoked or uncured

Glaze

  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 cup pure maple syrup
  • ½ cup Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 275°F to prepare for baking the ham.
  2. Prepare Glaze: In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons honey, 1 cup pure maple syrup, and ½ cup Dijon mustard. Whisk until thoroughly mixed, then cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
  3. Prepare Pan and Ham: Line a deep baking pan with parchment paper. Unwrap the ham from its packaging and place it flat-side down in the pan.
  4. Apply Brown Sugar: Rub 2 tablespoons brown sugar all over the top and sides of the ham, ensuring an even coating.
  5. Bake the Ham: Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the oven. Bake for approximately 15 minutes per pound, which will be about 2 hours for an 8-pound ham.
  6. Broil with Glaze: Remove the foil and take the ham out of the oven. Set the oven to broil. Pour the prepared glaze evenly over the ham, then return it to the oven uncovered. Broil for 5 to 8 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning. This step caramelizes the glaze and heats the ham through.
  7. Serve: Remove the ham from the oven, slice, and serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Make sure to watch the ham closely during broiling to avoid burning the glaze.
  • Use a deep pan to catch any drippings and prevent mess in the oven.
  • You can substitute Dijon mustard with whole grain mustard for a different texture.
  • Allow the ham to rest for a few minutes after baking for easier slicing.
  • If smoked ham is not available, use uncured ham for a milder smoky flavor.
