Description

This Easy Layered Taco Bake is a delicious and convenient American main course featuring layers of seasoned ground beef, flour tortillas, salsa con queso, and melted Mexican cheese blend. Perfect for a quick family dinner, it combines classic taco flavors in a baked casserole style that's simple to prepare and sure to satisfy.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 3/4 cup water (as called for on seasoning packet)
  • 1/2 cup salsa con queso
  • 3 (8-inch) flour tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend (divided)

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef: In a skillet over medium heat, brown and crumble 1 pound of ground beef. Drain excess grease carefully to remove fat from the pan.
  2. Season the beef: Add 1 packet of taco seasoning and 3/4 cup water as directed on the seasoning packet. Stir well and simmer until the mixture thickens and the beef is fully cooked.
  3. Add salsa con queso: Turn off the heat and stir in 1/2 cup salsa con queso until it is thoroughly combined with the seasoned beef mixture.
  4. Preheat oven and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray an 8-inch round baking pan generously with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  5. Layer the bake: Place one flour tortilla at the bottom of the pan. Spread about one-third of the taco beef mixture evenly over the tortilla, then sprinkle with one-third of the shredded Mexican cheese blend. Repeat this layering process twice more: tortilla, beef mixture, and cheese.
  6. Bake the dish: Bake the assembled taco bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the edges are slightly golden brown.
  7. Cool and serve: Allow the taco bake to cool for a few minutes before slicing into wedges. Serve with your favorite toppings such as sour cream, chopped tomatoes, or avocado.

Notes

  • If salsa con queso is too spicy, substitute with a milder regular cheese dip.
  • Use nonstick cooking spray to make cleanup easier and avoid sticking.
  • Flour tortillas labeled 'soft taco' size are ideal for layering.
  • This dish can be topped with guacamole, sour cream, fresh salsa, chopped onions, or jalapeños for extra flavor.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven for best results.
