Description

Delicious and vibrant red velvet waffles topped with a smooth cream cheese glaze. These waffles are soft on the inside, slightly crispy on the outside, and perfect for a special breakfast or brunch treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Cream Cheese Glaze

  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • ½ cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Red Velvet Waffles

  • 2 cups Bisquick mix
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 30 drops red gel food coloring
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare cream cheese glaze: Beat the butter and cream cheese together until soft and smooth. Add powdered sugar and continue beating until light and fluffy, scraping down the sides of the bowl to ensure a lump-free mixture.
  2. Mix glaze liquids: Add the whole milk and vanilla extract to the cream cheese mixture and stir until fully combined. Set the glaze aside.
  3. Preheat waffle iron: Turn on your waffle iron to preheat while preparing the batter.
  4. Mix dry ingredients for waffles: In a medium bowl, whisk together Bisquick mix, brown sugar, and unsweetened cocoa powder.
  5. Combine wet ingredients: Add buttermilk, whole milk, red gel food coloring, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Whisk thoroughly until the batter is smooth.
  6. Cook waffles: Pour about ¾ cup of the red velvet batter into the preheated waffle iron. Close the iron and cook for about 5 minutes, or until waffles can be easily removed and are soft inside with slightly crispy edges and a light brown surface.
  7. Serve: Drizzle some cream cheese glaze over warm waffles and enjoy while hot. Repeat cooking with remaining batter and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Add more milk to the cream cheese glaze to make it thinner or reduce milk to ¼ cup to create a thicker frosting consistency.
  • If you don’t have buttermilk, combine 1 tablespoon white vinegar with 1 cup regular milk, let it curdle to mimic buttermilk texture and flavor.
  • Omitting brown sugar from the waffle batter results in less sweet waffles, balancing the sweetness of the cream cheese glaze.
