Description
These Vegan Avocado Fries are crispy, golden, and perfect for a snack or appetizer. Coated in a seasoned flour and panko breadcrumb mixture, these fries are air fried to perfection and served with a flavorful chipotle mayo dip. They offer a delicious plant-based alternative to traditional fries, using ripe but slightly firm avocados for the ideal texture.
Ingredients
Scale
Avocado Fries
- 1 large avocado (ripe but slightly firm)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (more as needed)
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 3 tablespoons non-dairy milk (plain, unsweetened)
- ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
- Oil spray
Dip
- Chipotle Mayo (for serving)
Instructions
- Cut avocado: Cut the avocado in half, remove the peel and pit, then slice into ¼-inch thick slices to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
- Prep coatings: In one shallow bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Pour the non-dairy milk into a second bowl. Place the panko breadcrumbs in a third shallow bowl.
- Coat avocado slices: Using one slice at a time, lightly coat it with the flour mixture, then dip into the non-dairy milk to moisten. Next, press the slice into the panko breadcrumbs, coating both sides thoroughly. Arrange the coated slices evenly in the air fryer basket.
- Spray and air fry: Lightly spray the avocado slices with oil to promote crispness. Air fry at 400°F for 12 minutes or until golden brown, flipping halfway if desired. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste once hot.
- Serve: Serve the crispy avocado fries immediately with chipotle mayo for dipping. Enjoy while warm for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- When coating, keep one hand dry and the other wet to avoid clumping—for example, use the wet hand to dip and the dry hand to handle the dry ingredients.
- For an oven method, preheat to 425°F. Arrange fries on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spray with oil, bake 10 minutes, flip, spray again, and bake another 10 minutes until crispy.
- This recipe works well with a firmer avocado to prevent mushiness during frying.
- Serve with chipotle mayo or alternatives like vegan dijon aioli for variety.
- Best served fresh for optimal crispiness and flavor.
